Live Your Big Juicy Story

When writing the story of your life, don't let someone else hold the pen.

Your life is your story and no one can write it better than you.

The sooner you realise that, the sooner you will realise that you hold the master keys to building a big juicy, creative, wild and meaningful life experience.

This year you will get to write your story, chapter by chapter, page by page, line by line.

You will get to decide how your story starts and where it ends. You will get to choose which characters play a lead role and those who play a supporting one, also acknowledging there will be many other characters who will come, be it in the way of cameo appearances, lending themselves to a page, a paragraph or two, and those who go as quickly as they entered, perhaps leaving nothing more than a few scribbled side notes. But they will all have something to either contribute or gain from your story.

You will get 365 sunrises to start over and find something creative and purposeful to do with your day.

Most importantly, you will get 365 sunsets to ask yourself one critical question, "What happened because I was here?".

And you will be given the gift of the edit. To close doors that no longer lead anywhere. To raise your standards. To release what no longer serves you. To stop rushing. To stop apologising. To stop trying so hard. To refocus on your intent.

Learn to edit wisely.

I don’t believe every day will be your best day. Some days will downright suck or make you unbearably sad. People will disappoint you. You will disappoint yourself. These days will also be important to your story's narrative as your character continues to develop and grow.

It's your ability to edit and adjust that will help you cope and rise and create a series of best moments. They will become your perfect moments and you will be so immersed in them that you will not be able to recognise them for what they are until you look back. Some may last a few mere seconds, others minutes and if you’re lucky, hours.

Life after all, is a collection of moments - simple and complex, ugly and beautiful, lazy and laser focused, generous and selfish, all bound together to create your own unique timeline.

If you want to live the kind of story you want to read about, start by answering these questions...

Reflect on 2017

  • What goals, dreams and miracles came true for you in 2017?
  • What choices did you make that got you to where you are now?
  • What important lessons did you learn?
  • What did you spend too much/too little time on?
  • What didn’t go to plan? What could you have done to change the situation?
  • How did you better yourself?
  • What and who are you grateful for?
  • What is the last good deed you did, or gift you gave, to someone?
  • Who made a positive impact on your life?
  • What did you do last year that you want to stop doing this year?
  • What would give you the biggest payoff if you started or changed altogether in 2018?
  • Knowing what you know now, if you could go back to the start of last year, what advice would you give your younger self?

reset for 2018

  • What is one thing you could do to make this year easier, happier and more meaningful?
  • What is one new thing you will do just for fun?
  • Which relationships do you want to nurture?
  • What are you excited about and looking forward to?
  • What three things will you devote yourself to this month?
  • What is your purpose for the year?
  • What daily plans will help you connect to that purpose?
  • What will encourage you to hang in there when things get tough?
  • What sacred boundaries do you need to create to protect your energy?
  • How will people's lives be touched by you?

What’s the first thing you need to do to begin 2018 the way that feels right for you? Start now, as you are today, with whatever resources you have at hand.

Really connect with your answers, write them down so you can refer back to them and keep yourself on track throughout the year. Regular reflection and self correction will make all the difference. I promise.

Decide what role you will play in your story and go be that person by actively participating and contributing to the world you want to create. Know the value and worth you bring, and whatever you do, please don't play small. I know it takes courage to play a bigger, bolder game when there is so much noise around you trying to keep you small and tame and quiet. But if you continue playing small, it will break your heart.

Remember, this is your one and only - non refundable, non repeatable - life experience. Why wouldn’t you write your own playbook, with your own rules and adventures?

I hope you will astonish yourself and the world around you with your magic, kindness and brilliance and I hope you will make every effort to live the best part of your story yet in 2018.

Your life is your story and no one can write it better than you.
